Artist Tim Hildebrandt passed away on 11th June. Together with his brother Greg, the Brothers Hildebrandt produced many illustrations of Tolkien’s works. You can view some examples of their work here and visit his memorial site here.

As part of his degree course in model design and special effects Fergus McNulty sculpted a 3D model of Gollum. The model took him three and a half months to complete and helped him gain a first class honours degree. You can read the full story at The Belfast Telegraph and view a picture of the sculpture here.
The nominations for the 2006 Dora Mavor Moore Awards have been announced and the musical version of The Lord of the Rings has received 15 nominations, surpassing all others. You can read more about the awards here.
The Gathering of the Fellowship in Toronto (1st-4th July) needs more support from Tolkien fans. While the organizers have heard nothing but “good “buzz” and enthusiasm from fans” registrations for the event have not sold. To date only 300 have registered and the event is in danger of not happening at all.
