Tolkien postcard found
Whilst dismantling a fireplace in Tolkien’s former home in Poole, Dorset, demolition worker Stephen Malton, came across a postcard addressed to Tolkien. A collector has reportedly offered $500,000 for the fireplace and postcard. You can read the full story here.

I realize the house is probably pretty outdated and the land is very valuable but I still find it sad that they’re knocking it down. Still, at least they’re saving the stuff.

And this little fan here would be willing to shell out more than $500,000 to get it, if she had the money. Stupid minimum wage job!
I think they’re shockingly short-sighted. They could have had a steady income for years to come if they’d turned the place into a sort of museum. “……And in this room our dear Professor enjoyed sitting by the fire and thinking about Middle Earth….” It could have been a minor gold mine. Sad. Very sad.
