According to an article on Yahoo! the writers of the three Lord of the Rings movies, Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens have signed on to co-write the Hobbit movies with Guillermo Del Toro, who will be directing the films as well.

The folks in Kentucky have put together “A Long Expected Party”, a gathering of Tolkien fans to celebrate the birthdays of Bilbo and Frodo. There will be many different events, games, workshops, and of course food! The event will be held in Shaker Village, near Harrodsburg, KY, starting on September 25th through to the 28th. The Royal Armouries Museum, Leeds, UK, is hosting an exhibition of over 200 pieces of arms and armour made by Weta Workshop. Exhibits include Eomer’s helmet, the Witch King’s mace and Aragorn’s sword. The exhibition runs until 16th November. There’s further information, including pictures of some of the exhibits, here.
The ODEON Cinemas in Covenant Gardens, London, is hosting a free Trilogy Screening on August 16th, 2008, as a part of the Frjjj Film Season. They will be showing all three of the Lord of the Rings theatrical versions back to back, with a brief intermission between films.
