Appendix A – Staff Training Check-List

  • Welcome to the staff.
  • Expected behaviour on main site- i.e. Not breaking rules, not abusing power etc.
  • Keeping staff business private.
  • Expected behaviour between staff- i.e. Not interfering in someone’s forum, not publicly arguing with other staff etc.
  • Time that should be spent on area and what to do if you need help.
  • Ask new staff member if they feel they can handle these responsibilities.
  • Explanations of moderating functions- talk person through and get them to practise in your company.
    • Marking threads read.
    • Closing threads.
    • Topping threads.
    • Bumping threads.
    • Deleting threads.
    • Moving threads.
    • Editing individual posts.
    • Moving individual posts.
    • How to find an IP address and what it is for.
  • What is a problem member?
  • How to report problem members.
  • What happens if you have a problem you can’t deal with?
  • Explanations of chat moderating functions if they wish to mod chat.
    • When to warn, when to kick.
    • How to kick.
    • How to temp ban.
    • How to report problems.
    • When to ask the chat admin for a ban.

  • Point out important staff threads- i.e. problem members, bad signatures, problem chatters, policies, links etc.
  • Reminder to read the staff forums to get a better idea of how things are dealt with.
  • Answer questions the new staff member might have.
  • Alert Rivka or Veaglarwen that the member has been trained. Alert chat admin if the new staff member wanted to moderate chat. This is so the appropriate access can be given to forums and chat.
