Originally called Ard-Galen (The Green Region), it was renamed by the Edain and the Eldar after its destruction by Morgoth in the Battle of Sudden Flame. It was south of Angband, Morgoth’s stronghold, and north of Taur-nu-Fuin.

Anfauglith meant 'Gasping-dust' in Sindarin.
