The Argonath ('King Stones'), also known as the Pillars of the Kings, are the great statues that guard the passage of the River Anduin and the entrance to Nen Hithoel. They were carved into the mountains by the Númenóreans in the likenesses of Isildur and Anárion, at the behest of King Rómendacil II. They also marked the northern border of the lands of Gondor.
