The Battles of Beleriand were a series of five battles fought against Morgoth in the War of the Great Jewels during the First Age. The first three were victories for the Eldar, the last two were victories for Morgoth.

The First Battle

The First Battle took place after Morgoth had fled Valinor, but before the creation of the Sun and the Moon. Morgoth was seeking to eliminate the Grey-Elves from Beleriand and sent out two armies, searching the land. Then Thingol sent to Ossiriand for help, and the Elves of Doriath and Ossiriand united to fight in East Beleriand against a host of Orcs. They were victorious, though Denethor I of Ossiriand was slain. However, Western Beleriand was not so successful, and the Elves of the Havens were driven towards the sea.

The Second Battle

The Battle-under-Stars, also known as the Dagor-nuin-Giliath.

The Third Battle

The Glorious Battle - the Dagor Aglareb.

The Fourth Battle

The Battle of Sudden Flame - the Dagor Bragollach.

The Fifth Battle

The Battle of Unnumbered Tears - the Nirnaeth Arnoediad.
