Beregond son of Baranor was a man of arms in the Third Company of the Citadel in Minas Tirith. He was also father to Bergil.

He met Pippin when he arrived in Minas Tirith with Gandalf. Beregond showed Pippin around and taught him the ways of the city.

During the Siege of Gondor he saved his captain Faramir's life by disobeying orders. He left his post at the Citadel to prevent the servants of Denethor setting light to the pyre that had both the living Faramir and Denethor on it. He slew the doorkeeper of Rath Dínen, and two of Denethor's servants.

He was at the Black Gate when the War of the Ring ended. There, his life was saved by Pippin: he was stunned by a troll, but before the troll could finish his work, Pippin stabbed him.

Once the war was over, his fate had to be decided by Aragorn. The usual penalty for those who deserted their post, and spilled blood in the Hallows was death. But because of his valour in battle, and his unending loyalty to Faramir, he was allowed to move to Emyn Arnen to protect and serve Faramir. He then become Captain of the White Company there.
