The main entrance into Sauron's realm of Mordor, and also known as the 'haunted pass'. Cirith Gorgor was the largest pass into Mordor and the most powerfully defended by Sauron during the Second and Third Ages. In both ages these massive defenses were eventually thrown down and the pass opened.

The pass was situated at the meeting-point of two ranges of mountains: Ered Lithui and Ephel DĂșath. It was closed by the Black Gate of the Morannon, and guarded by Carchost and Narchost, the Towers of the Teeth.
