Daeron the Singer was minstrel to Thingol. He loved Lúthien, but as she did not return his feelings, he turned his love into the music he made for her. He soon became the true master singer of the elves.

Out of jealousy he betrayed Lúthien and Beren to King Thingol, and later he betrayed her again when she confided in him wanting to flee from Doriath to find Beren.

Daeron disappeared from the country soon after Lúthien, and was never seen again.

It was Daeron who created the runes called the Cirth, which were more appreciated by the dwarves than by his own people, the grey-elves.
