Elu Thingol’s and Melian’s guarded realm, formerly the Forest of Eglador. The realm was enclosed by the Girdle of Melian, a web of enchantment created by Melian and set around the borders of the forest to protect their realm from attack or intrusion.

The realm of Doriath consisted of two forests – Neldoreth and Region – during the time of Thingol’s stewardship. Between the forests, the Esgalduin flowed. In the centre of the realm was Menegroth.

Doriath lasted throughout the majority of the first age, until Thingol was slain by dwarves, and Melian withdrew her power and went into the West.
