During the Council of Elrond, he first suggested sending the One Ring to Tom Bombadil, for him to keep safe. Later he declared they had just two choices: to hide it, or to unmake it. He called the path to destroy the ring the "path of despair".

After the War of the Ring was over, he came to Gondor with Elrond and the rest of his household for the wedding of Arwen and Aragorn.
