“Names of insight”, also called “essi apacenyë” (names of foresight). These were mother-names, bestowed by Elda mothers on their offspring either in the hour of their birth or on some other occasion, and would indicate a dominant feature of their personality or some foresight of their special fate. These names carried a lot of weight, were regarded as true names when solemnly given, and were public if placed immediately after the father-name.
