The final event in the Quest of the Silmaril, in which a group of hunters composed of Beren, Huan, Mablung of Doriath, Thingol, and Beleg Strongbow hunted Carcharoth, who was ravaging the lands near the river Esgalduin in the torment caused him by the Silmaril.

Huan and Carcharoth eventually slew each other, and Beren died from the poison found within the wolf. The Silmaril was retrieved from the belly of the wolf by Mablung of Doriath.
