Born in 2955 of the Third Age, he was the Dúnedain Prince of Dol Amroth. He was father to three sons, Elphir, Erchirion and Amrothos, and one daughter, Lothíriel.

During the War of the Ring, he fought bravely in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. He temporarily took over the job of Steward of Gondor after Denethor's death, while Faramir was in the Houses of Healing. He fought also at the Black Gate of Mordor.

There was a tradition held by the people of Dol Amroth and beyond that the lords of that land had the blood of elves in their veins. It is said that long ago when the Elf-maid, Nimrodel was lost while trying to meet her true love Amroth at the Bay of Belfalas, some of her female companions made it there at last. The story says that one of these, Mithrellas, may have wed a Númenórean Man named Imrazôr, and from them were descended the lords of Dol Amroth.
