Indis was a golden-haired Vanyar elf who awoke at Cuiviénen with the first elves.

She was the sister of Ingwë, and after the death of Míriel Serindë she became the second wife of Finwë, high king of the Noldor. Fëanor, Finwë's first son, greatly resented Indis.

She gave birth to two sons: Fingolfin and Finarfin, and from them came the only remaining descendants of the royal Noldor house.
