The Kings of Gondor were the rulers of the realm of Gondor descended from Elendil. They were the Dúnedain of the South.

When the Exiles of Númenor were cast upon Middle-earth Elendil founded a realm in the north called Arnor. His sons Isildur and Anárion founded the realm of Gondor in the south.

Elendil is counted as the first of the Kings of Gondor since he was the High King of both Arnor and Gondor.

Upon the death of Elendil, Isildur became the High King and so is counted as the second King of Gondor.

When Isildur left the south kingdom, the rule of Gondor was committed to Anárion's son Meneldil for Anárion had perished during battle.

After Meneldir there were thirty Kings of Gondor before the last king was lost and the rule of the land was given to the Ruling Stewards. After a long interrum the kingship of both Arnor and Gondor was reclaimed by Aragorn after the War of the Ring.
