Nightingales in Middle-earth were small brown birds related to Thrushes that were famous for their clear, beautiful songs. They were especially notable because they would sing during the day or during the night.

The Sindarin word for Nightingale was Tinúviel, which was the name that Beren gave to Lúthien when he first saw her.
