A promontary at the tip of the south-western spur of Mount Erebor, accessible by a stair and track of several miles, terraced into the eastern side of the spur overlooking the ruins of Dale.

The dwarves of the Lonely Mountain built a fortified look-out post on Ravenhill. A large chamber was hollowed out to accommodate a substantial force with a smaller chamber behind it. The surrounding rocks housed anumber of ravens friendly to the dwarves, and it was here that Roäc son of Carc brought news to Thorin Oakenshield of the death of Smaug.

During the Battle of Five Armies, it was on Ravenhill that Gandalf and Bilbo Baggins took ther stand with the elves of Mirkwood, and where Bilbo later woke alone to find that the battle was over.
