Rían was a daughter of Belegund of the First House of the Edain. She was born in Ladros, but was soon sent to Dor-lómin for safe keeping during the Dagor Bragollach. There she married Huor.

She bore Huor a son, Tuor, but Tuor was born only after Huor had been killed in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad.

Soon after Tuor's birth, she went out into the wilds to die of grief on the mound called Haudh-en-Ndergin, the Hill of the Slain, where her husband lay.
