Also called 'The Worm'.

A dragon that inhabited the Grey Mountains of the north of Middle-earth. Little was heard of him until his death. He was killed by one of the Éothéod, Fram son of Frumgar.

When Scatha was dead, Fram claimed the dragon's treasure, but so did the Dwarves. The treasure became the source of a great feud between the Éothéod and the dwarves. Fram sent them nothing but the teeth of the dragon made into a necklace, with a note saying: "Jewels such as these you will not match in your treasuries, for they are hard to come by."

The small horn that Meriadoc Brandybuck received after the War of the Ring from Éowyn was said to have come from that hoard.
