Soronto was the son of Orchaldor and Ailinel and was of the Line of Elros because his mother was the daughter of Tar-Meneldur the fifth of the Kings of Númenor.

Soronto was angered when the sixth king, Tar-Aldarion, changed the laws of succession in favor of his only child and daughter who was called Tar-Ancalimë. With the change of laws, the eldest daughter of the king could then receive the sceptre if the king had no son. The sceptre would have passed to Soronto had the laws not been changed.

Soronto continued to press Tar-Ancalimë to give up the sceptre to him until she finally married and bore a son.
