Son of Tar-Vanimeldë and Herucalmo. By law Alcarin was his mother's heir, and should have become King of Númenor on her death. Instead, Herucalmo seized the Sceptre for himself, clinging to the reins of power under the name Tar-Anducal. After twenty years, Tar-Anducal died in his turn, and Alcarin finally came into his inheritance, ruling Númenor under the name of Tar-Alcarin. He was the Seventeenth King of Númenor and ruled for 80 years. He was succeeded by his son, Tar-Calmacil.
