In this lesson we’ll discuss the diphthongs of Sindarin. There are 6 of them:
• ai: as the ‘i’ in ‘fine’
• ei: as the ‘ay’ in ‘day’
• ui: as the French word ‘oui’ (‘we’ with a short ‘e’-sound)
• ae: almost the same as ‘ai’ but the final sound is more like the ‘e’ of ‘bed’
• oe: as the ‘oy’ in ‘boy’
• au/aw: as the ‘ow’ in ‘now’ (both ‘au’ and ‘aw’ represent the same diphthong, but ‘aw’ is used when it is found at the end of a word)
