Tengwar Sindarin lesson 3
In the mode of Gondor we need a symbol to denote a vowel at the end of a word because in that case there’s no consonant on which it can be put. The same holds for the first vowel when we have two vowels next to one another that don’t form a diphthong. The symbol used is (we call it the short carrier):
So the short carrier has two different meanings depending on the mode:
- mode of Beleriand: here it is the vowel ‘i’
- mode of Gondor: it is used to place a vowel for which there’s no consonant available (and of course in this mode it always has a tehta on it)
And we also introduce two more consonants:
