A Hobbit’s Tail from Here to There

There once was a family of Hobbits.
The Father was Mr. Doren Shortleaf,
The Mother was Mrs. Loren Shortleaf,
And the eldest child was Wolly,
Then came Dolly,
And last of all was little Tom,
And he was different

And Here my tale begins.
It was the day of Tom’s birth,
And the sun was shining for all She was worth.
So the room was warm,
When Tom was born.
His Mother gasped and called his father,
“Doren my dear, come right here now,”
she said turning pale,
“Doren, Tom has a tail!”
“A tail from here to there,”
said the father pointing along the tail.
“This is unbelievable!”
“Incredible!”
“Odd!”
And they called their children in to see Tom.
“My little brother has a tail?”
Wolly asked, now he went pale.
Dolly giggled,
“A Hobbit with a tail?
My will this make a right good tale!”
And so all was the talk over the shire,
of a Hobbit with a tail.
And so Tom grew amongst the stares,
And oohs and aahs of Hobbits,
But one day he said with a little tear,
I am so lonely because no one comes near,
To talk with me.
So he ran away and went to Bree,
And there he met a kind Mr. Lee.
Mr. Lee didn’t care,
That Tom had a tail,
And they became best of friends,
And there my story ends,
Because although it could go on,
I do not know the rest from here on,
But I can assure you,
That Tom lived happily to the end of his days,
And in many ways,
This tale has no end.
