“What do you mean my plans are in vain?” the Dark Wizard roared, whirling around to face fellow wizard Timmock.

“There is an elf,” Timmock explained, not ruffled by the other wizard’s fury, “A she-elf. She possesses a power so great, it may eventually destroy you.”

“That’s a lie,” the Dark Wizard spat.

“Look into the water and you will see.” Timmock stepped back from the fountain.

Fracas the Dark Wizard peered downwards. He saw nothing at first, but the waters shimmered and an image of a she-elf appeared. She had brown hair with matching eyes and wore a white dress. She looked like all the other elves.

Appearances can be deceiving.

“And what is her power?” he asked Timmock as the image shimmered.

“She reads minds.” Timmock answered, “Not just her kind – everyone’s.”

“Everyone’s?” The Dark Wizard stared at the she-elf and the image disappeared. “And where does this elf live?”

“Rivendell – of course.” Timmock paused. “She’s very protected by the Elves and lives in secrecy.”

“If she lives in secrecy, then how did you possess this knowledge of her?”

“Someone who has proven to be very helpful to me – and I will hand him over to you. When I believe the time is right to do so.”

The Dark Wizard glared at him. He was the greatest wizard of them all – how dare Timmock patronize him so.

“Get the others ready,” the Dark Wizard ordered him, “We are going to Rivendell.”
