Poets of Middle-earth by pointyeared
Frodo during the time of the Bilbo’s eleventy first birthday; couplet poem
Across the earth the dancing goes
as beer is sloshed and pink skirts flow
the smiles clear on drunken face
the girls look down at silk and lace
waiting for a partner’s hand
to sweep them off their feet and off the land
frightful stories of an old one’s mind
with a dragon and the gold they’d find
little ones gasp with faces pale
a baby even gives a wail
but on this night so pure and bright
with fire works to light the night
a knowing thing replaces my thoughts
that puts my stomach all in knots
it will not last this food and wine
nor the gold that’s said did shine
when the old one disappears
is when I see the truth of years
