I thought we should have one common thread for all news and links regarding Quenya that we'd like to share, just so that nobody misses important information because it's scattered all over the forum. I've tried to do my best to collect already posted things into this thread. If I've forgotten something, please repost it here.

Please post all news, resources, links etc. related to Quenya in *this* thread. Hantalë!

(Thanks to Hyanda for this recommendation)

A link for those who'd like help with pronunciation of the sounds in Quenya:

Julian Bradfield's page on Quenya Phonology, with .wav files: http://www.dcs.ed.ac.uk/misc/local/TolkLang/pronlo/pronguide.html

Edit July 27th, 2004: The above link seem not to be working anymore. This pronunciation guide with sound clips can now be found here:

Aiya ilquen,

Here is a very good Quenya Dictionary but you still need to refer to the Wordlist on Ardalambion and the wordlists on The Fellowship Of WordSmiths, but this is a very good.

Quenya to English Dictionary, however you will need PDF program on your computer such as Acrobat Reader 6.0 is the new version out.

You have the choice of two versions at the bottom of the page, The Latex Version or PDF Version.

Edit 26-1-04: Helge Fauskanger has an updated English-Quenya wordlist available. The link is the same.

This site has sound files in Quenya (and Sindarin). Most are the site owner, Thomas Ferenz, reading poems, but there is also one with Tolkien reciting "Namárië":

The Mellonath Daeron-site contains nice phrases and translations, like a phrasebook for use in modern times.

For reading and writing Tengwar in several modes, you can find the Tengwar textbook here. There is also a more simple version of it, to be found here (Acrobat Reader required).
For transcribing Tengwar, there is a nice freeware program here.
For writing Tengwar yourself with a wordprocessor (windows), you can find a nice tut here.

This site:

www.learnelvish.com

has some pretty good English-Quenya/Quenya-English dictionaries. There are other Tolkien language dictionaries there too, like Teleri.

Just a little word of warning here... notice that the owner of www.learnelvish.com states on the home page that the information regarding Quenya is mostly outdated. I haven't read everything there, but the page about verbs is not entirely correct, for example, or even consistent.

I haven't read the verbs, but I read the nouns/adjectives and these are all quite strange. There even occurs a word starting with 'ph', and I thought this consonant cluster does not exists anymore in modern Quenya, as far as I remember.

Aiya ilquen!
I just thought we could perhaps use this thread for information about changes in the Ardalambion lessons and other things relating to Quenya.

There is now a new section to the appendices of the Quenya Course at Ardalambion, the subject is stem variation
(scroll down to the last section of the file):

http://www.uib.no/People/hnohf/qappend.rtf

(The appendices tend to be rather technical, so they are probably of most use to those working on the later lessons)

I've found two great links for Tengwar (they're not fonts, though; more like primers).

Click here for one. There is no direct link for the other one, as any link leading from ardalambion stays as ardalambion in the address bar. The long way around is go to ardalambion, scroll down, and click on Tengwar Primers. This will bring you to a page with links to essays on how to use Tengwar. The first one, I believe it is "Writing Quenya with Tengwar," gives you a complete guide to using Tengwar. And no, it isn't 10 million pages long, it's about two. I found it incredibly useful.

Edit: Eruantalincë posted the a link to the latter before in this thread, and I failed to notice it. Sorry Here is the link

I was thinking about making crosswords for the vocab. The vocab for 2 lessons would be in one crossword. (eg 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6, ect.) Does anyone think this is a good idea? Would anyone like to help make them? I would have to first PM whoever is in charge of the game section. But does anyone think this is a good idea?

jojo, making crosswords is a good idea, and Eruantalincë has already made some, which can be found on the "Extra Elvish Exercises" page (Language Resources). But if you want do do more, go ahead!

I sent some Quenya crosswords to Olorin (games admin) quite some time ago. So lessons 1-2 are already up under Quenya - Difficult.

You should ask Olorin to take them off. They should be put into the Extra Elvish Practice area. They aren't games. Just a note.

EDIT BY MOD: The Extra Elvish Practice area and the Games Section have different way of displaying crosswords and there is no reason why we couldn't have some here and some there.
In Games, one can fill in the crosswords online and "cheat" if necessary, while in the Practice page one can print them and fill them in the traditional way.
So, Mirimë and future contributors, don't move anything from Games, but do tell us in this thread whenever something Quenya-related is uploaded, no matter in what section.
Thank you.

Tengwar isn't a language. As I recently figured out, it's a form of writing. Just an FYI

Ok, well then I guess I should add that there is also a Learning Style personality quiz that will give you advice on the best ways for you to study Elvish (or anything else for that matter).

Welcome to CoE. Indeed, I hate to admit it, I'm not Malinornë, but I might be able to give you some tips. We have a Quenya workbook on the site that can be found here; I would suggest starting with that. These are really a summary of the ardalambion lessons, so if you're really ambitious you can study those. There's a lot of good resources in this thread for things that might not be found in the lessons. If you get confused at all, just ask one of us on the forum (we all remeber those days :banghead: ). All of us are willing to help (hope that doesn't sound too corny)

Hi HaldirsLady! Lindele's already given you some great advice, so I can only chime in. Try out the workbook, look in this thread for additional resources, don't be afraid of asking questions in the forum, and if you feel you would like to study together with someone, announce for a studdy buddy in the thread for that. Welcome once again!

Thorsten Renk has got a "new" site:

Nice detail: there are a few soundfiles, which might be helpful for those who have problems with the pronouncation.

According to Elfling message 29619 Helge Fauskanger has updated several sections of of his website www.ardalambion.com

The most important updates are in the Quenya wordlists, but there are also other changes, such an addition to the general Quenya article, mentioning Quenya in the movies and locatives in -dë.
