Lungorthin appears in Tolkien's early Lay of the Children of Húrin as "Lungorthin, Lord of Balrogs". This might be another name for Gothmog, or simply "a Balrog lord". (source: Wikipedia)

Why it's the name that Tolkien was originally going to call Oromë's Great Hunting Horn. It was rejected in favour of Valaróma.

Grond 1 was also called Hammer of the Underworld it was Morgoth's huge mace
I think that the mace that Sauron used in the FoTR movie represented Grond (could be wrong)

Grond the Second was a huge battering Ram that was used to destroy the Gate of Minas Tirieth during the War of the Ring

Durin III was given a Ring of Power, The Ring of Thror, by Celebrimbor himself. Durin IV was one of the first slain by the Balrog of Moria, hence the name Durin's Bane.

Haha, yeah, Elves is indeed a species. I was thinking of black squirrels and deer, but you're totally right. Kudos for making me chuckle. Your turn.

Thanks to Brooke's prodigious memory which she used to send me in the right direction after I had looked, unsuccessfully, at several references; and the fact that she wrote a fanfic about Arvedui ..... Image

When the Lossoth [Snowmen of the North] gave aid to Arvedui, last King of Arthedain, who had fled into the north to escape his kingdom's destruction. When an elven-ship came to rescue him, he rewarded them for their friendship with the Ring of Barahir. His hosts sensed approaching disaster, and warned Arvedui not to board the ship. Against their advice, he did so, but a great storm overwhelmed the ship and last King of Arthedain was lost in the cold waters of the far north.

Also, thank you, Encyclopedia of Arda Image
