Ooo... trick question!

FotR: Elrond's expression when Merry and Pippin run to join Frodo.

FotR (EE): Frodo's look when he heard his mithril shirt was worth the entire Shire

TTT: Pippin's expression when he realizes the 'tree' was moving. Snaga's terrified expression before his head got whacked off. Grishnakh's face when Merry kicked him. Gollum's face near the end after Sam's speech.

TTT (EE): Merry's face when he sees Pippin has grown. Pippin's face in the same scene. The really tired and bored expression on Merry's face during Treebeard's song.

RotK: Gandalf's face of alarm when Grond breaks the gate and the trolls crash through.

RotK (EE): The black-eyed slave-driver's expression when he reaches the 'fighting orcs'. He looks so indignantly prissy! I didn't catch it until the last time I watched that scene. No wonder he's in character when he's an orcish prig. Then when the other orc goes "Oi!" and he looks at him, the expression on his face is so funny! I also loved the Mouth of Sauron's 'friendly, innocent' grin.

Hmmm... let's see...

ROTK: Frodo's face when Sam produces the Ring- the shock- perfect

FOTR: Frodo laughing at Sam & Rosie dancing

TTT: Frodo after Sam says "there's some good in this world" etc. *sniff*

TTT: Gollum: "but we could get Her to do it..." *lol*

I don't know if anyone else has ever noticed this one...

In the two towers, when the Eldar are marching in Helm's Deep. There is a shot of the Eldar marching, and from behind them, you see this one guy ( a rohirrim i guess) who stares straight at the camera with this funny grin. Every time i watch that with my friends we pause it right at the moment he looks at the camera and laugh our heads off.

I have a few of them .. but the one that sticks out the most is in FOTR when the Fellowship is in Moria, in Balin's Tomb .. and they hear the orcs, and Boromir peeks his head out to have a look at what they're about to face, and he says, "they have a cave troll" . I don't know why but I just love his expression there !

u know when in Helm's Deep when Éowyn comes up 2 Aragorn and says she has to go in the caves?
Well, you can tell exactly what Legolas is thinking when he looks at Aragorn: "Here's your other girlfriend, you little..."

i just thought of another one!
i love it when Gimli is putting the chainmail on at Helm's Deep and says "it's a little tight across the chest" then Aragorn nods, like "that's nice, Gimli!"

FOTR: When Merry says, "Well, that rules you out, Pip," Pippin kindof does a double take like "Yes-WHAT?!?!"
Oh, the description for Legolas's look (intrigued bird) is HILARIOUS! I have some chickens and that's exactly what they look like when I come out before feeding time!
TTT: Pippin's double take at Treebeard
The look on Pip's face in the EE when they find Saruman's storeroom
Theoden's face when he picks up his sword after his "transformation"
Gollum's face after hearing Sam's speech @ Osgiliath
ROTK: Pip's face when he's listening to Gandalf talk about the Undying Land
Frodo and Sam at the "The King's got a crown again" at the Crossroads in the EE
Aragorn's face after Eowyn is found in the EE right before the Houses of Healing
Legolas's look at Gimli after the Oliphaunt, the little twitch he does

Fotr: Pip's kinda blinking 'what the-' looks he gives when pelted with apples.

TTT: the moment pippin realizes...the tree he's holding onto just moved.

Rotk: its just really funny how merry and piipin seemed to be totally loving the fact all of mina tirth was bowing to them. Also, the looks they all give when they come home from the shire on the ponies....too good!

Excellent question and not all obvious.

I don't know whether anyone mentioned this one yet but the absolute best expression for me is at Helm Deep when Gimli asks Aragons to toss him so they can sneak attack the Uruks. The look on Aragorn's face is priceless! The best way to describe it is, Wicked! :evil::heart:

The second best is Elrond when Pippin and Merry jump out of the bushes at his council to join Frodo. His expression is like oh darn looks like my SeCreT council isn't so secret after all. Who ever said he doesn't have a sense of humor? :love:

Third best is Haldir when Aragorn hugs him. He is like, 'you must be very confused if you think I'm Arwen but I won't break your nose for hugging me since your under a lot of stress'.

Wow it's been a loong time since I last posted here on CoE!
Anyway, I just saw FotR yesterday and when I saw this thread I just had to post a few of my favourites... and no, sorry haven't read all of what yu other guys have said, some though.

FotR:
~The look on Strider's face when Arwen rides away with Frodo. Knowing the love of his life is riding out in danger.

~Elrond's eyebrows, gotta love 'em!

~When Gandalf and Elrond exchange glanses after Aragorn joined the fellowship.

~Legolas and Gimli's expressions as Gimli also join the fellowhip.

~Pippin's "great!Where are we going? the look on his, merry's and Frodos face.

~Boromir when he picks up the ring at the mountain (can't spell the name). Awesome.

~The look on Argaorn and Frodo when Gandalf falls in Moria, and Legolas once they've gotten out.

~When Legolas is telling Merry and Pippin about the lembas-bread.

~The faces of Merry and Pippin when they watch Boromir, realizing he's going to die. And when they both attach and is lifted up and carried away, Merry's face shows despair and consern for Boromir - not himself.

~When Lurtz, standing right in front of Boromit, is about to shoot his fourth and final arrow. The pure look og arrogance and saticfaction. Grr really want to just shop his head of...!



(I know there's a lot pf spelling mistakes here but I don't have a dictonary...)

ROTK: When Merry and Pippin see Frodo alive and well---I have that pic, it's so adorable!

FOTR: Frodo when Gandalf dies...The acting is just amazing.

TTT: Pippin's face when he first sees Treebeard---The double take is priceless!

I also love Frodo's smiles at the end of each movie! :love::heart::love::heart:

In the extended version, when Pippin falls in the water at Mirkwood (was that mirkwood? I don't really know...), he has the funniest expression on his face.


that wasn't Mirkwood it was the marshes. v. funny though!!!

Gandalf when he hits his head in bag end
Aragorn when legolas tells him how bad he looks
Gimli after Legolas accidently shoots the Peter jackson Corsiar (EE)
Frodo when he is hanging off Mt. Doom
Merry and Pippin after they set off the big dragon firework at bilbo's party
and Haldir when Aragorn gives him a hug

my absolute fav is at the end when frodo wakes up and he and gandalf start laghing and everybody comes in. Legolas's big smile is just adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know it's not some big thing but it's his FIRST FACIAL EXPRESSION IN THE HOLE TRILOGY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's see here...

FOTR:
* Frodo's expression when Sam begs Gandalf not to be turned into anything "unnatural". Just so amusing.
* Gimli when Aragorn says "Let's hunt some orc!". It just makes me laugh so darn hard.
* Elrond when Sam, Merry, and Pippin decide to join the Fellowship.
* Pippin and Merry discussing "people of intelligence" before joining the fellowship
...best one was when Aragorn gets that wistful yet determined look right before saying to "hunt some orc"

TTT:
* Haldir's expression when Aragorn hugs him at Helm's Deep
* Merry's frustration when Treebeard tells him not to be hasty. Awww poor hobbity!
* Eowyn speaking about her cage. it was just so perfect, she LOOKED trapped.
* Aragorn right after Gandalf restores Theoden "back to normal". ZOMG HOT! (sorry, my fangirlism took over)

ROTK:
* Denethor while eating. Just made me laugh.
* Dernhelm revealing her disguide. "I am no man!"
* Aragorn when Arwen appears at his coronation. Bliss.
* Frodo's face when he sees Gandalf approaching on the Eagles.

Ok I don't like Aragorn, but the look on his face here is just maybe the funniest in the whole trilogy!!

Pippin's face during the 'Far Green Country scene' It goes from totally despairing to hopeful

Also Sam's facial expression in FotR when Frodo says, "Rosie knows an idiot when she sees one." and Sam goes, "Does she?" haha!

FOTR - Legolas' face when he sees boromir dieing. It's perfect!

TTT - Aragorns expression when Gimli says "toss me." (Or "toast me" if you get a certian version ).

ROTK - Gandalfs expression when the grond breaks the gate and the trolls come in.

"You are soldiers of Gondor. No matter what comes through that gate, you will stand your ground .... Oh dear"

Elendil's(?) face just before Sauron hits him with his mace during the Prologue of FOTR. he's like "oh, SNAP!". Conveys the impending tragedy of the situation and at the same time manages to be really funny!

Definitely Sam in RotK when he comes into Frodo's room after Merry, Pip, Gimli, and Aragorn. His face just looks so sweet, so loving in a best friend kind of way.

And Aragorn's expression in TTT when he spills Eowyn's gross (and hot) soup on his hand, while trying to dump it.

Merry and Pippin at the beginning of Fellowship of the Ring, when they nearly blow themselves up with the firework.

Boromir: "They have a cave troll!"

When Gimli asks Aragorn to toss him at Helm's Deep...hehe. The look on Aragorn's face is absolutely priceless.

The expression on Gandalf's face after he says, "No matter what comes through those gates, you will stand your ground!" Sort of, Oh dear. I wasn't expecting THAT.

The four hobbits, when they're at the Green Dragon after they get back from their adventure. First Sam is staring across the room at Rosie, evidently lovestruck, and then he gets up and leaves, and the expressions of shock and amusement on the others' faces are just so funny.

And my very favorites, I think, are Faramir and Eowyn's at Aragorn's coronation. Pure bliss. (But since they cut out their scene, nobody I watch the movies with realizes why...argh.)

In ROTR, after Leggy has just has just spectacularly climbed aboard the Mumakil & taken it (plus passengers) out, and he slides gracefully down the trunk to Gimli - he kind of does this sigh/quirky head tilt (PRICELESS! lol). Then the shot goes to Gimli who looks like a STUNNED mullet and promptly protests "That still only counts as one!".

I love that sequence...:heart:

I don't know if people have noticed this...I didn't bother to read through the whole thread. Too lazy. Well, anyway, in ROTK Theatrical version, at the Black Gates Aragorn is looking kinda thoughtfully at the gates, kinda like "It looked smaller on the map..." but that is not what was my favorite.

No, it was when Dad cracked up and rewinded the movie to show me Legolas's expression.

Okay. I'm NOT going to even try to imitate it. It was this really frumpy sort of look with his forehead furrowed and his eyebrows smooshed together and a weird sort of pout on his face It was SO FUNNY I felt like I was going to explode from laughing so hard. Legolas looked like he was regarding Aragorn's hair like, "Dude...I think there's something ALIVE in there...OH DEAR ERU DID THAT THING JUST MOVE!?!?"



ROTFL!!!

When Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas burst out from the Paths of the Dead and see the Black Ships, and the port of Pelargir in flames, there is a moment when Aragorn almost loses hope. As his shoulders sink and his head droops down, his expression says it all.
