Aw, s sorry Legolas! *hugs*

I'm afraid we might have to put Sadie down. She's got arthritis and she isn't doing very good. Not to mention she's around nine or ten years old (I think).

OK, so i found a solution, kinda. he loves bread. rolls, bread slices, and stuff like that. so if we make like a sandwich putting the dog food (its wet dog food) between two pieces of bread, then he would get the majority of it. WAIT MAREHT! Before resorting to putting her down, get some essential oils! i am not kidding, they work like a miracle!

I am so sorry about Dafi, dear Little One. I am glad that he is not in pain any longer and is now healthy and happy and playing fetch in Heaven.

I'm just starting to look for a new canine companion. It's a pretty daunting task: I know what I DON'T want which is a start. Hopefully, I will be successful. There aren't many dogs available at the locally SPCA so I'm looking at rescue sites. I also will be speaking to a friend who owns a pet store and acts as a rescuer for cats and dogs.

I wish you could rescue our dog, E~S. We just can't afford to take care of her. She's got a hot spot on her hip and arthritis. She's such a sweet doggie.

Are you getting another dog Leg? I know I didn't want to when Jack died.
Evil-Shieldmaiden, have you got one yet?

Further adventures of Jack the Dog
Here's Jack relaxing with the paper on a sheepskin rug. He was cursed with dyslexia and so we would read it to him. He had a profound knowledge of world events ehich led me to believe that he had a short career in the foreign office or perhaps MI6. Pictures of his earlier exploits have mysteriously disappeared and I suspect that he ate them, the reflex actions of a trained agent. He never spoke of his early years except to maintain that he was descended from a famous line, from Cuchelain, Hound of Ulster. This would be believable if it were not for tha fact that Cuchelain is a) a myth and b) a man. But then he also claimed King Arthur's hound in his lineage.

There are three dogs, King Charles Spaniels, living down the street from me. They are really sweet and sometimes I take them for walks. They are Amber and her two pups Bruce and Logan, who always go for walks together because they would get lonely otherwise. Also, they often sleep right beside the window, and they sit there waiting when one of the others goes for a walk.
If anyone had happened to look out of a window on the east side of the palace, they might have noticed two figures in the darkness, dancing in a square bordered by living plants, out of time with the dancers inside but perfectly in time with each other.

Even More Adventures Of Jack The Dog.

One of the annual dates which was etched in Jack's diary was the Harrogate Show, a pivotal event in the Yorkshire calendar if you have any thing to do with the land, animals, tractors, ale or civic society. Jack was there for the animal judging, particularly the small, furry mammal class. To his lasting disgust he had never been asked to sit on the judging panel at the show, which could mainly be explained by his insistence that one of the most important criteria to an expert, especially in the guinea pig class, was flavour.

Jack usually tied a helium balloon to his collar so that we wouldn't get lost. It was his day after all, so he led the way. It also came in handy for a bit of balloon butting diversion (or 'nosing the rubber bubble' as he said), so much more satisfying than a grounded air filled type which required a great deal of effort to keep aloft. On this particular occasion he entertained himself in this manner and made his way across a 12 acre field under gentle persuasion from a north westerly.

We began to feel lost and frightened, calling to him in plaintive voices. On realising his momentary lapse of responsibility he began to trot back across the field, causing the balloon to trail behind and bounce from side to side. He thought he was being chased so he ran faster but this only aggravated the thing further and eventually he was running full pelt towards us. It was only when we shouted 'Stay, Jack, stay!' that he stood still, allowing the balloon to resume its previous innocuous position above. It was only then that he could see it was just a balloon. There's a moral there somewhere as he pointed out later.

tarcolan, your stories of Jack are so heartwarming. Such a dear he must have been. I could not help but smile at the story of Jack and the Balloon. I tried that with one of my furkids, Kiefer, and he ran so fast but you cannot tell a cat to stop.

Please tell us more stories of Jack.

Earlier this afternoon, our German Shepherd, Sadie was put to sleep.
While he had her faults, she was still a very sweet dog. She lived to be somewhere around fourteen, or fifteen years old.

We got to take some good pictures of her before she passed on, so I will try to post one or two later on.

May you rest in peace, dearest Sadie.

Yes, Sadie was the best dog we ever had. It is so hard to say goodbye to such a good friend. My eyes have hardly been dry today. I went to the animal hospital with my parents to have her put to sleep. When the man said he had to take her, I just broke down crying, and gave her a hug and kiss and lots of pets. When it was all over we brought her home and buried her in a nice shady spot between the woods and a garden.
I think our other dog, Pepper, misses her too. When I was kneeling by Sadie's grave Pepper came and gave me wet kisses, like she wanted to comfort me.

I kept Sadie's collar and plan to put it around a framed picture of her. We will be ordering a memorial stone for her resting place, and will likely plant a rose bush for her.

I love you sweet Sadie girl, and always will. You will forever be in my heart.

Sorry to hear of your loss you two. It's always sad to lose a good friend like that, but their lives are much shorter than ours and making them suffer for an extended period of time isn't good either. May she play in the Summerlands' fields with all the pets that await us.

My heart goes out to you Mareth and Song and the rest of your family. I know how hard it is to lose a treasured animal friend. Your Pepper knows Sadie is gone and also shares your sadness. Give her extra hugs.

We would love to see some pictures of Sadie and of Pepper as well.

I agree with Song, Sadie was by far the best dog we've ever had the pleasure of loving and knowing. We will never ever forget her.

Thank you, everyone. Your words of comfort are much appreciated.

Thank you.

The animal hospital sent us a sympathy card, and they inclosed a very sweet poem which I thought you all might like. I know I did. It brought tears to my eyes.

A Pet's Prayer

My people are so precious, Lord
I know You think so too...
And I believe You put me here
To love them just for You!

They take such gentle care of me
And have such tender hearts...
Please use me, Lord, to comfort them
Whenever teardrops start.

They face a lot of battles
As they live and work each day...
They need me, Lord
To make them smile
And show them how to play.

The world is full of people
But sometimes real friends are few
Please let my love and loyalty
Remind them, Lord, of You.

And when my final moment comes,
Lord, tell them as we part...
I was a made-to-order gift
From Your great, loving heart.

That was such a sweet card and poem. I am glad Sadie was able to go peacefully, surrounded by such sweet people at the vet.

Thank you all for your kind and comforting words. It means so much to me.

Maxie, I appreciate your prayers. This has been a rough couple of days, and I know many more lie ahead. I am glad I do not have to go through it alone...God is with me, and He is "The God of all comfort" (2 Cor. 1:3-4). And one day there will be no more death or sorrow (Rev. 21:4).

Thank you all again. We will try to get some pictures of our sweet dogs up soon for you all to enjoy.

Lindarielwen, this girl does not like to be held back! She doesn't mind a leash too much if you run to keep up with her. I think she is about three years old. Her whole body shakes when she wags her tail.

She is very, very energetic. She always gets really excited when people are around. And she loves belly rubs. She's also very affectionate. She fits in our family quite well. I only wish we could get another dog-friend for her...especially for in the winter, when we aren't outside as often. She's been around other dogs all her life, and I think she gets lonely for one of her own kind sometimes.

That sounds just like my dog, who is also a lab shepherd mix. But she has more of the lab traits than the shepherd, like Pepper. I am going to look for a picture now.

Her name is Lily. She is 12 years old and moderately overweight.

She is laying on my bed in that picture. I hope the link works.

It's been a while since someone posted here. Here goes.

I finally decided to look for a dog in mid-May, expecting to wait for a while until the right dog came along. I started looking at dog rescue sites on the Island, and found one in Victoria specialising in small/medium sized dogs. I saw one I liked and completed an application. Much to my surprise, I was contacted the following day.

The dog I had seen was unavailable, but my contact said they had a whippetx and we discussed the possibility. It turned out that she was fond of chasing after other animals, and we agreed she would likely be a poor match for a 3-cat household. I was disappointed, but decided it was okay.

She called me back later to talk about another whippetx they had that hadn't yet been posted on their website. She said he was 4-5 years old, and very well trained. As for cats, she said he was 'indifferent'. She emailed me a bio and picture and I arranged to meet him on the Saturday.

As soon as I saw him, I knew it was meant to be, and I paid for him and arranged to pick him up in two weeks. I ended up driving back to Victoria the following Sunday morning and brought him home.

His name is Oscar, and he was saved from a high kill shelter in Alabama, of all places. Whoever had him before me obviously put a lot of effort into training him as he is fully obedience trained. As for the cats, he now sleeps on the bed with them, and is quite happy sharing my lap with them. Here's a picture of him.

'Hedge' is his favourite toy. He loves to run around the yard at warp speed, pausing occasionally to toss him up in the air so that he can catch him.

Mind you, his enthusiasm has necessitated a trip to the 'hospital' for Hedge to get some stitches. He now has a substitute 'victim', Billy the bison, when Hedge requires hospitalisation. LOL
