There were three of them;
Two larger and one little.
Pigs sent to market.

One was blind and two were deaf
But they all ate mice

An old recipe for cake
The plump man replied.

I did some research on Haikus and it would seem that, while they are always comprised of 17 syllables used in 3 lines, the number of syllables per line is flexible, as long as the total doesn't exceed 17. This time I have written a Haiku and put the number of syllables in each line beside the line.

Whilst on a log, (4)
Paddling my feet in the cool flow: (eight) .... (I kept getting a cool smiley when I used the number.)
I dropped my clock. (5)

On her lips 3
Made her close her green eyes and think about starlight 11

It is a wee bit harder doing it this way

I know: it's seems a lot harder, doesn't it? I think we just stick to what is easiest for us, but it's nice to know there's an option, if you get stuck on the 5-7-5 format.

You could try writing a Limerick ..... LOL

Then, leapt on his horse with out me;

They don't have to be haikus, do they?

A cowboy once sat on his horse
Believing that he had the force
He lost every cow
But he didn't know how
Said "My rope must have stuck in the gorse"

midnight, hope, sing

She waited with so much hope
That soon he would sing

I love your Limericks, Wolfie! They're very clever, and more difficult to write than Haikus IMHO.

The kitten was cute;
White as the new-fallen snow,
Pure, sweet Khaleesi.

Okay, I am crying. But not all tears are an evil.

The imp was laughing
Watching the black kittens play
The moon beamed at them as well.

Thank you!

I woke up and thought me a kitten
Then saw I was wearing a mitten
Caught a mouse on the grass
For a cat that did pass
And that poor wee kitten was smitten

Almost forgot the next three magic words...

tree, stars, midnight

Touching the sky and
reaching for the heavens, I see
everything,
everything can
see me

seeing is not always believing
truth transcends every lie
and
rays of sunlight
shine through each

midnight.
inky
darkness of the
night swallows up the minds of mortals,
ignites power in the
great dreams of those who sleep, those who are between
here and there:
the night watches all.

Well, I guess the gauntlet has been thrown down .... awesome stuff, people!

Sensual moments rise:
Bridging table;
Testing self-control;
As I watch you eat.

Touch me
And I will
Touch you.

Taste for memory's sake:
Remembrance
For the years to come.

With the moon as my guide,
there is no place to hide.
With the clouds in my mind,
I turn to look inside.
Raven's dance to an invisible beat, by which none can abide,
the life that is near determined, and died.

Sky, Light, Fear

The sky is burning, the sky is alight
My mother said this wasn't our fight
The fear, it took us in the night
I held my brother's hand so tight

I cannot run, I cannot stay
I must hold on 'til light of day
At last the sky is turning grey
And we must run, run far away

My mother strokes my brother's hair
My sister smiles, my sister fair
The war's no longer our affair
We ran, we ran from that nightmare

Well, that was longer than I intended...

And wafting on the breeze;
Falling white
Against the night
O'er fields and streams
And Christmas dreams.

The spider spins her tricky webs,
Spins them up inside my head.
lies on lies,
Yet the crow still flies.

I am taken aback (but I don't let it show),
When a bear walks up and says "hello!"

I stir from slumber, open my eyes;
I cannot cast this dream aside.

His walnut skin is softened
as if by the touch of a child's crayon.
He looks to the old stone and
throws money at it.

great glory to his men,
but only once a

Didn't realise they had to be Haiku's (or do they?) Here's one anyway

The river flowed
took his book away
with the onion from yesterday

We started out with Haikus but no, they do not have to be. Haikus have 17 syllables and three lines...5/7/5

The cedar smelled good
The burning bush burned to ash
My dinner plate broke

I'll just repeat the same words and then add three new ones.

Tell me the stories I loved to hear
Sing me the songs I held so dear
Hold me close now and I won't fear
You are the one my heart holds dear.
