I was trying to be humorous... but really, I would have to say it would depend on the reconnaissance. Yes a Hobbit is stealthy and according to Tolkein "adept at remaining hidden when the big folk come blundering along" but the Ranger was also said to have a strange skill in sight and hearing.

This time it wasn't "Add Reply", it was "Quote". Both very apt to make me only answer and totally forget that a following question is required.

@ Sundown: taking "the Ranger" as Aragorn, and him only, not the other rangers, perhaps, though Legolas's skills here are certainly far beyond Aragorn's. And the Hobbits also have stealth as a natural ability, add to that their walking barefoot and being much smaller, and a Hobbit in a pinch would certainly outclass even Aragorn on stealth, IMO.

Would you rather have the job of reminding Gandolorin to do complete posts or Bilbo to continue with his diary? Image
