A small town in the Shire rarely spoken of among Hobbits and not shown on any map of the Shire. The inhabitants were very unusual for Hobbits in being very parsimonious, never giving parties. Scottish Hobbits, one is tempted to say from a present-day world view (or Swabians in Germany).

A hillock where the most bookish (very few) of the Hobbits of the Shire met to discuss books from outside the Shire and (from the viewpoint of the vast majority of Hobbits) other totally useless and esoteric information.

An ancient weapon created by Dwarves for hunting Orcs. It fell out of favour because of it's tendency to cause its user to lose balance, thereby exposing his back to Orcs on his flanks.

The Hobbit name for the Redhorn (Khuzdul Barazinbar) above Moria. The first syllable is obscure and much debated.

What a Hobbit named Red Archer (for his clothing) yelled when, challenging some foes with his war-name, he accidentally released his shot too early, aka into his own foot.

The contents of a small bottle found by Merry and Pippin in the ruins of the gate-house of Isengard and unfortunately took a sip from. It was actually used to oil the hinges of the gate.

A thin, oddly-shaped tree found only around the bay of Cuiviénen. By some quirk of fate, the metal contraptions for TV reception found on houses in our days bear an eerie resemblance to it.
