An archaic weight unit in The Shire, doubtfully estimated at perhaps 500 pounds.

Name of the largest drinking vessel in the Prancing Pony, reserved for the King when he should return - and thus a dusty museum-piece with pretty much no hope of ever being used in its intended form, in the opinion of the Bree-landers, at the time of the War of the Ring.

The northern part of the Midgewater Marshes, where there were much fewer insects due to an ample population of certain amphibians. It would have been a far less bothersome part of the MM for Strider and the Hobbits to pass through, but it would unfortunately have been a very far detour to the north.

Now, enough of simalarion (SP) nonsense that I can't comprehend.

Púkel-men: The ancient carved images, thought to be of Woses or Drúedain, that lined the road to Dunharrow in the White Mountains. (Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli saw them on the way to the paths of the dead.)

The name of the pony Sam bought in Bree.

The original boomerang, invented by some Hobbit hunters. The other Hobbits referred to it as the "Miraculous Wood", but after the odd beer in the preferred pub, the pronunciation was slurred and contracted to "Mirkwood". *burp*

The name (source unknown) of a large breed of parrots from (far?) Harad, which, according to dubious sources, the Haradrim, for a very short time, are supposed to have tried to use as birds of war. Apocryphal legends indicate that the Haradrim - or their allies - quickly abandoned the effort, as these parrots were rumored to be able to talk like humans, and were prone to squawk out the entire battle plan of the armies intending to use them, because they were so proud of their linguistic abilities.
