Wow, so jealous. I've only seen snow twice, and that was when I went up north....I built my first snowman this year with the help of my friends. I loved doing it! So jealous of all your guys' fun!

We didn't get a whole lot of snow were I'm from this year We are quite annoyed by it. For one my dad had bought a new snowmobile. 2 Come spring there isn't going to be a lot of water in the ground so nothing is going to be growing well if this keeps up

On a happier note I believe Jess is making Mexican for you all today for supper.

I always see this thread but never drop in to have a proper look. Image

Hello all, some of you I recognise from the Games and RP forums, so hello to my game buddies and also hello to friends I have yet to make!

I've noticed that most of you are saying it's cold where you are... Here in the UK it's pretty mild, but can be quite cold at night time but the cold doesn't really bother me...

As for hobbies, I love reading, drawing, video games, cross-stitch sewing, playing instruments and participating in Taekwondo. Though to be honest, I have a lot of things I do for fun, but I think hobbies is too strict a term for them!

*hands out a tray of 叉燒包 (chaa siu bao - roast pork bun) and mugs of green tea*

Enjoy friends! I made veggie ones too if there people who don't eat pork

Wow! All these snowmen look awesome! We have a lot of snow where I am, but it's too cold to go outside!
Welcome, then! We're always glad to have some company What instruments do you play? I agree, it's hard to determine what is a "hobby" or something you just enjoy doing ^^
*Takes a mug and a bun* This looks delicious! Perhaps you would be interested in being a cook here at the inn? It's a lot of fun, and everyone pitches in

I think I can be your resident Chinese cuisine cook it's my speciality... That and English roast dinners

I play the violin and bass guitar/guitar mainly, but I can also play the drums, saxophone, piano, cello (I just need to own my own), and a little of the flute.

I hope you enjoy the buns. I have a terrible addiction to them, you can blame my first 5 years of life in Hong Kong for that!

We didn't get much snow in the UK, and when we did it turned to slush pretty quickly

Yes, these buns are delicious! ♥ Well, since I'm the Mexican specialist, I think that'll work out nicely. Also, I'm up for some roast dinners When, I was in England, I only had, like, typical tourist food ^^
You play allllll those instruments?! That's so awesome! Haha, that must've taken such a long time to learn!
Growing up in Hong Kong must've been so cool! And I understand about the snow When I lived in Belgium, when we got snow (which wasn't often) it was slush before it even hit the ground hahaha ^^

*Smells food and wakens from where I'd been snoozing by the fire* Hey, could I have one of those buns?

I don't have a ton of hobbies, really, though I love singing and playing guitar and writing. And reading, but I don't know if that counts as a hobby. I'm also collecting quarters, though I don't have many of those yet.

I think our snow is all gone, or any least mostly gone. It was around for a while this morning, though, so we get to play in it a little more, and I got to take some pictures. It was fun!

I'm glad you enjoyed the buns Jess They're my one addiction, I think And I still have a lot of Hong Kong culture in me, even though it's been a long time since I was last there! I've never been to Belgium but would love to go one day.

Mareth, feel free to have as many buns as you please. I made plenty to go around I also class reading as a hobby! But I think I'm more of a book-collecting addict these days, as I have little time to read them due to university work! Eventually I'll catch up.. (not likely!)

I'll basically read anything, though I am mainly partial to high fantasy, crime/thrillers, Stephen King and.. oh never mind, I love reading most things! Just give me lots of paper with words on with a nice cover Image

Also, yes Jess, I have a nickname I prefer, which is Ildë

Okay, Ildë ^^
I think you should visit Belgium! It's small, but it's very pretty ^^ I prefer fantasy & adventure books, and I am a sucker for a good mystery. But, yeah, I also will read just about anything you put in front of me.

I do have to say Jess, I love your avatar, it's such a nice picture

Well, I'd love to visit lots of countries, the top of my list being Norway, Iceland and New Zealand, but my current university course, and eventual career path doesn't allow for many holidays! That and I never have enough money to go anywhere! Maybe one day...

As we were talking about books, I managed to reap the benefits of having iBooks and downloaded a whole load of new books onto my iPad... because I've filled up my new bookshelf already with physical books... Almost. There's still some space I can squeeze them into

Hey new people! *grabs a refill on hot chocolate* It's too cold for me here. I'm just hoping it doesn't snow because I have a test tomorrow that's already been rescheduled once due to weather! Anyway, good to see all this wonderful food around!!
Ilde- I'd also love to visit those same places! My sister and I found a company that does 2 week long horseback tours through various countries. Scotland is number one on our list, but then I've picked Norway for after.

(Because I saw people like to read (I love it also) I'm going to do some self promoting real quick and then shut up about it, but I love to write fantasy/adventure and two of my books have been published. "The Rise of Aredor" if you're interested!)*snuggles closer to the fire* what's everyone's favorite winter beverage?

Oh most definitely a mocha with caramel syrup for my favourite winter beverage! But then again, I'd drink it all year round.

Despite living so close to Scotland, I've never been! You'd think living on an island should make visiting Scotland easy! Especially since my ancestors are from there!

Good gravy. I can hardly leave this thread alone for a few hours without having several posts to catch up! But that's a good thing.

As far as what I like to read - well, there's many genres I enjoy. I do enjoy fantasy, as well as fiction, historical fiction, children's, and probably others. I haven't read sci-fi before really - though I did listen to the beginning of 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' a while ago. That's one I'd like to read. And I see several of you like mysteries. Are there any Sherlock fans here? I'm talking books, not shows. I've never watched the shows, but I love reading Sherlock and Watson's many adventures.

And I'd love to travel! I always say I would like to travel the world. But some of the many places I would like to visit are Africa, New Zealand (no-brainer, right?), Scotland and Ireland, Italy, England, and...oh, so many other places! I would be hard-pressed to name the top country/place I'd like to visit.

And as far as favorite winter beverages go - I love hot cocoa. And coffee. But those go any time of the year, even when it's so hot outside you feel like you are melting. Though I would be more inclined to drink my hot beverage inside when it's hot, rather than outside.

speaking of winter drinks my favorite is a pumpkin spice latte. It tastes just like pumpkin pie

as for traveling there are the normal places that people want to go the European countries and Australia and stuff. But there are some states I also want to go. I've wanted to go to Alaska for years and years. Experience the summer and winter solstice. There, on the summer one there is 24 hours of light. In the winter, darkness.
I also want to go to Oklahoma and see a tornado. I always wanted to see a tornado with my own eyes. I've been about 20 miles from one but to me that doesn't count. I couldn't see it.

Cupcake you want to see a Oklahoma tornado? Do you prefer 5 miles or three? Perhaps you would like the thrill of narrowly dodging one by less than a mile?

Travel...well I planned a trip to Italy (not really, it was school) but after the rest of the States: New Zealand, Korea, England, Scotland, and Israel.

I'm a Sherlock Holmes book fan! I have the whole collection in one compendium, which spans 1,000+ pages my favourite has to be 'The Hound of the Baskervilles', I think yourself?

When I was little I hated storms, so I started learning more about them. I found them fascinating. Then I saw the movie Twister, where they chased the tornadoes and stuff. It really affected me.

I agree, Mareth! It seems like if I turn away for a second, there's a whole new page to read through! I'm a very big Sherlock Holmes fan! My favorite one is "A Study in Scarlet". It was the first one I ever read, and I was totally hooked
I've always been interested in traveling It is my life goal to visit every country in the world ^^

Then Oklahoma is the place you want to be We didn't have any major tornadoes this year (thank God!) but last year we had the BIG one that went through Moore and Oklahoma City. There is still mangled trees beside the highway and the houses are just now finished.

Oh, I don't know which is my favorite...I really liked 'The Hound of the Baskervilles', though I do not think I could pick my favorite story. We have a copy of the Original Illustrated Sherlock Holmes, but I don't know that is all of his adventures.

And Jess, I don't believe I've ever heard of those. I'll have to look it up on Goodreads or something.

My state (Mississippi) can be quite stormy...though we tend toward hurricanes and such. We've had some bad tornadoes, as well, but I don't think I've ever seen one in person.

okay, now I really need to get there. I love seeing the damage too. I know that's strange. Its exciting and stuff. They day after the one in my town we all went for a drive to see the damage. We were not aloud down the real bad parts but it was still neat to see all the wind damage and stuff. But I still want to see one going and stuff too. Maybe I'm crazy.

Okay, um... I feel a little weird jumping in the conversation like this, but well... the forum title said 'make yourself known', so here I go...
Nice to meet you all, I just joined this website... I decided I wanted to try to learn how to speak Elvish (I still haven't picked Sindarin or Quenya), and came across this website.
I joined immediately. ^^

I'm learning Elvish (Can't decide between Sindarin and Quenya). I still suck at it. This language is HARD... The first thing I memorized how to say in Quenya was "Go kiss an orc."

RIP Leonard Nimoy ❤

Mae g'ovannen, Kiresa! Welcome to Council of Elrond

Jess, my boyfriend is currently reading the 'Professor Moriarty' novels, and the new Sherlock ones written by Anthony Horowitz, and he thinks they're great!

Also, I need consoling tonight everyone, as one of my idols, Leonard Nimoy passed away :'(

Worse, is the fact I've just started a night shift, working 23.00 until 8AM in the hospital, so I'm having to smile at people while I'm sad

Ildë, they're really good! I've got a few, including some about Col. Sebastian Moran (<-- my favorite Sherlock Holmes character ^^) Awww.. I'm sorry ♥
Cupcake, I know exactly how you feel! I am very interested in storm damage (not just tornadoes, but hurricanes, blizzards, anything!) sooooo... you're probably not crazy, haha ^^

Ilde, here is a little story you might like.

*****

I went to a trade show back in November. It had to do with things that are available at amusement parks. One of the displays featured getting your hand dipped in wax and it made a mold of your hand that you could take home. The line was very long and everyone was talking about how they would position their hand in the wax.

Almost everyone was getting the *Spock* hand and they were all saying, "Live long and prosper."

*****

Leonard Nimoy will live on in the hearts of his fans.

I loved Star Trek mostly because of Leonard Nimoy. He will be thought of with a tear in my eyes for a long time.

So to all Leonard Nimoy fans I say, "Live long and prosper."
My destiny is riding again, rolling in the rain, unwinding in the wind. My destiny is fighting again, secretly unwinding..what it was I was supposed to say...to say to you today.
