Post Negating Adjectives?
on: September 21, 2014 06:17
In Quenya, is there a way to negate adjectives like one negates verbs? I know "lá" can be used to negate whole sentences, and that adding "um-" to a verb will negate it, but can you do something similar with adjectives? For example: changing "happy" to "unhappy"

- You conjugate lá to negate "to be + an adjective": i coa las alta, the house is not large.
- Another possibility is the prefix ú-: úfanwa, not obscure.
- Or use lá before a non-finite verbal form (active or passive participle, gerund, infinitive): lá cápala rocco, a not jumping horse; lá télina parma, a not finished (i.e. unfinished) book, ...

An additional possibility might be a prefix related to : ala- as found in alasaila "unwise" and alahasta "unmarred."
