Post Sindarin for "womb"?
on: April 08, 2015 12:12
I've seen the word huch used a few times in fanfiction to refer to a woman's womb (sadly can't recall the specific stories or the sites I saw them on), but does anyone know if this has basis in canon?

Huch seems to be from Parma Eldalamberon #13; an early Noldorin-stage word for the female sexual organ.

Quenya has móna (VT43 p. 31), evidently from Common Eldarin *mônâ (< MÔ 'labour' ) which would become Sindarin *mûn. Where a longer word would be desired for poetic metre's sake etc., a proper longer neo-synonym might be for instance *emelvun after Anglo-Saxon módor-hrif & Finnish äidin-kohtu.
