Post Sindarin Name
on: July 07, 2015 05:09
Hi there!

Ok, so I would like to have an elvish name. Yeah, weird right? I am hoping that I could get some help in deciding on a name and confirming its legitimacy.

I am considering "estel" (hope) "-on" or "-dir" (male). However, I have two problems with this. First, "-dir" sounds better, but some websites say that this suffix implies an adult male, which I am not... yet. Second, one particular site says that "estel" is generally used in female names.

I would like to have a name that describes something like "trust," "faith," or "hope." Input would be greatly appreciated.

Hannon le.

Well it's certainly not just for females as it's Aragorn's epesse!

You also have Amdir = 'looking-up, what a Man would call hope'.
That would give you:
Amdir
Amdiron ('male')
Amdirion ('son of')

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm thinking about it.

Would the spelling "Esteldir" be correct? How about "Esteldor"?

Yes, 'Esteldir' = man of hope. Esteldor would be more 'Land of hope'.
