Post Mithril in the real world

I thought about Mithril, and when I googled a bit, I found a metal which is rare, hard, can be formed with hammers and is silvery-white.

Mithril?

No, Rhodium! Look here: https://simple.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodium

What do you think, could it be the inspiration?

I couldn't click on your link so I just googled it. You have a very interesting thought Cool_Name. I am sure that Tolkien got his inspriation for Mithril somewhere and rhodium could very well be that metal.

Okay, I'll try to fix that link but I don't think I will make it work- I'm simply an idiot at my PC...

I don't believe there is any metal in the real world that could compare to Mithril. In movies, perhaps the "Adamantium" which made Wolverine's skeleton all but indestructible in the X-Men series probably comes closest (see "X-Men Origins - Wolverine".
