Post Modern Technology?
on: February 02, 2016 05:25
I needed to share this as I actually started laughing when I read it. I don't know why I never noticed it before today.
From The Unfinished Tales, page 131, in the Narn I Hin Hurin;

quote:" They were soon in a black dark, but Mim clapped his hands and a little light appeared,....."

Apparently, this technology is a lot older than I suspected. I wonder what would happen if he clapped a second time.

The light would have gone out, of course. Seems like The Clapper has been around for ages.
My destiny is riding again, rolling in the rain, unwinding in the wind. My destiny is fighting again, secretly unwinding..what it was I was supposed to say...to say to you today.

I wonder where it was manufactured? Feanor was talented and did trap light, and Eöl was a great metallurgist.
Maybe it was a secret held only by the Petty-Dwarves and died with them rediscovered in the 4th Age

And how about the palantíri of the Third Age being the distant precursors of the Internet (with NSA & Co taking the part of Sauron)?
