That's even less possible for me to narrow down than authors would be, as my books cover a very wide spectrum of the natural sciences, social sciences, history and biography.

A favourite poet ... I actually read a lot of poetry by numerous poets, but I don't have any one that speaks to me more than another. I find it's the poems themselves that create visceral response that I'm looking for, not the poet, and I do have favourite poems, far to many to list here.

TNP has a favourite movie director.

Stanley Kubrick. I mean, a guy who impresses Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Martin Scorsese and Jack Nicholson must have done something right.

TNP has a favorite comedian.

The late George Carlin, notwithstanding his "seven words you can't say on TV".

TNP has a favourite classical composer.

Oh dear, my very limited experience (very definitely as far as their symphonies are concerned - come to think of it, I know even less about their non-symphonic stuff!) leaves me with L. v. Beethoven.

TNP has a favorite musical composer.

I love crossword puzzles, anything to do with words actually. I routinely play a number of word games, and have downloaded a number of crossword apps.

TNP enjoys playing card games.

I used to. A game probably limited to Germany of German-speaking areas, see "Skat (card game)" in Wikipedia. Played it at less-than-we-had-planned intervals with my two best buddies until about 1999, when two of us moved away from my now once again home town.

TNP enjoys playing board games.

I love chess and cribbage, and I played quite a few board games when I was young. I rarely get the chance to play nowadays though.

TNP enjoys watching 'classic' films (pre-1960).

One of them. Went to an open-air concert headlined by Deep Purple (Mark II lineup, Blackmore, Gillian, Glover, Lord, Paice) round about 1986 or so here in Germany, had to travel a bit to get there.

TNP has run across a sports star (perhaps after the active phase) in a hotel.

Actually, I have. I ran into Rusty Staub who played for the Montréal Expos in the restaurant of a hotel, and got his autograph.

Name rang a bell, and lo and behold, he played for the NY Mets 1972-76, after having played for Montreal!

Difficult to say, don't know if there is an English concept corresponding to the German "Ehrenamt", non-paid work for a "Verein", very loosely to be translated as a (non-profit) club.

TNP has, in a wide sense, been an instructor or a sort of help-desk.

No, but a couple or so (all of them presents) that I gave a short look and sampling and decided they weren't worth my time.

TNP has read a book that has more pages than LoTR.

Not a clue. I don't really care how many pages a book has so I don't pay particular attention to it. (I have no idea how many pages are in The Lord of the Rings.)

TNP has a favourite Russian author.

(My 2002 HarperCollins three-volume hardcover Edition with illustrations by Alan Lee is continuously paginated to page 1170 plus 20 roman numeral pages at the beginning. The binding is about 25 by 19.5 cm. My mid-eighties paperback totals about 1550 pages.)

No, I don't believe I've read anything by the 19th-century classics - which I would take to include the time up to WW I. And also nothing (perhaps a book by Lev Kopelev?) post WW II, except for a couple of books by the Gorbachevs.

TNP has a favorite Latin American author.

Science Fiction would have to be Isaac Asimov, or CJ Cherryth, although there are other authors I like as well.

Sorry, Gando. I misread your predication.

I don't read books on science as I have zero interest in reading about it.

TNP has a favourite fantasy author (other than JRR Tolkien ).

Fantasy in a strict sense (excluding Sci-Fi, which belongs to the larger realm of the fantastic), not really. Though the little what I have read by Terry Pratchett (and I do have the DVD "Color of Magic) and Andrzej Sapkowski (starring one Geralt the "Witcher" or monster hunter) is very likely interesting - maybe after retirement.

TNP has a favorite playwright.
