Post translation check
on: January 25, 2017 07:11
I have written something in Quenya and was hoping some knowledgeable, kind soul would translate it for me so I can see if it is what I meant it to be. If the translation comes back different than what I intended then I will post my original english and see if we can fix it. Thanks!

Silmë ná ancalima lómёssë annúra.
Mórë illunё anta írë ára racë.
Melmё ar estel lemyar tenna i ambermetta.

this is what i think it says, if that helps.

Starlight is most bright in night most deep.
Darkness always passes when dawn breaks.
Love and hope endure until the end of the world.

There are a couple of typos in there:

illume
auta
ambarmetta

Otherwise I think it's fine.

Yes, thank you for pointing those out. I wrote it by hand first and then typed it. Apparently my hand writing is so bad even I have trouble reading it

Lómë is an I-stem, so the locative is lómissë.
But when an adjective follows its noun the case ending is applied to the adjective: lómë annúrassë.
Yassë engë lómë, anarties calali.

You are right, thanks for catching them!

So the correct version should look like this, correct?

Silmë ná ancalima lómё annúrassë
Mórë illumё auta írë ára racë
Melmё ar estel lemyar tenna i ambarmetta

Also, i tried to rephrase and convey a similar meaning in a smaller package. Any thoughts on this translation? I was a little unsure of the double l in the "your hope" part (bold for emphasis). Thanks.

Nai estellda urya ve nari elenon, an silmë ancalima lomë morëssë.

May your hope blaze/burn like (the) flames of stars, for starlight (is) brightest in blackest night.

If that is correct is this correct tengwar referring? Forgive my sloppy writing, I haven't mastered them yet. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8Vaf3WRQnIAMWlLMkM3N2tSSEU/view?usp=drivesdk

For estel see my remark in your other thread.
In urya you used anna, this should only be used at the start of a word of after a vowel, not behind a consonant.
Órë never gets a tehta, you should change it to rómen in that case (you did this twice).
The correct genitive plural of elen is elenion.
Lómë and mórë have long ó's.
Yassë engë lómë, anarties calali.

thanks again. i found your description of "r" usage in the tengwar pages here way less confusing than elsewhere. i see i had another connecting vowel error here too. hopefully that will stick this time. I totally just wasn't paying attention to the long vowels. I'm realizing i've got to be considerably more careful with this than i am with english. i will try again and see if i get it right.

when i looked this up initially in the Ambar Eldaron dictionaries it said mórë is used for the noun form, while morë is used for the adjective form. Is that correct? I am using it as an adjective (blackest) so should i change it to long or leave it short? I left it short in the tengwar below until it is clarified. Thanks again.

Here is my latest attempt to render the saying in quenya and tengwar

Quenya
Nai estelelda urya ve nari elenion, an silmë ancalima lómë morëssë.

Yes, the adjective morë has a short o.
And your tengwar text is correct.
Yassë engë lómë, anarties calali.
