"An old man, swathed in a great cloak, the colour of which was not easy to tell. His face was long, with a high forehead, he had deep darkling eyes, hard to fathom."
visit us! - translation request on: January 29, 2019 04:47
I am looking to translate the phrase "Please come visit us!"
What I have is "nai ecë tuluval cenelmë" or "May it be please you will come see us"
What is bothering me is the "us" in that sentence. In my head I keep seeing it as "you will come we see" which is grammatically weird.
I know there is an independent pronoun "us" "emme" - however that is a dual form and the speaker in this sentence may or may not be referring to more than two people.
One of the quirks of English is the dropping of conjunctions. So "Please come visit us" is short for "Please come in order to visit us". So the "in order to" points us to the dative of the gerund: cenien.
The non-dual independent pronoun for we/us is elmë.
