This isn’t actually the Fangorn forest but his first painting of an Elf. That Elf being Beleg I think.
He’s there in the lower right corner, and the forest is that of Doriath.
cant see him- but thanks for the correction. hee hee this pic is on about 4 sites as Fangorn forest
oh my goodness…
in the lower right corner? i can’t see him, too. all i see is a mushroom. B)
Me too.
I see him. He’s quite small though!
arg…all I can see is the mushroom!
This is on the cover of one of my copies of TTT and on the inside it says it’s fangorn
a cool pic whatever it is
the elf is in the left corner
can’t it be a hobbit? if it’s a hobbit, it could be fangorn forest…
At http://www.torania.com this picture is said to be “Beleg finds Gwindor in Taur-nu-Fuin” Beleg is in the lower
left corner and Gwindor is the grey thing lying down at the bottom of the big tree. Hope that helps.
lower left-hand corner .
ok, i went to torania.com and i searched up the pic and found it; Beleg is on the bottom left hand corner,
climbing a root; plus, there is a body on the ground at the bottom of the thickest tree; torania.com has a
bigger picture and you can see it much better; thanks for the help Lady Goldberry
Funny. It’s on my copy of TTT. Must be why people assumed it was Fangorn. I know I did!
what’s that pic supposed to be?
This is on the cover of TTT, but part of it’s cut off and you can only see the Elf’s arm. I thought it looked
too light and unthreatening for Fangorn!
If it’s Fangorn and that’s a hobbit, why aren’t both hobbits there?
i went to toriana.com and there was no such website. you people are crazy. i think it is the giant forest in
one of C. S. Lewis’s books. Tolkien respected ole’ Clive Staples.
Those trees are extremely tall compared to Beleg.
Damn it people. It says: Description – Fangorn Forest by Tolkien. Why siscuss it ?

i don’t think this is the Fangorn Forest…nothing like he described.
GUYS! This is on my calander and it says “This image, in different forms, was used to illustrate all three of
Tolkien’s major works. Taur-na-Fuin, painted in July 1928, depicts elves Beleg and Gwindor in the ‘Silmarillio
n’ tale of Turin. Redrawn in ink as Mirkwood, it was inculded in early printings of The Hobbit. And when the
original watercolour was published, in the J.R.R. Tolkien Clander 1974, it was an illustration for The Lord of
the Rings. Tolkien seems to have felt that his Silmarillion picture could do double duty with a simple change
of title; but its sleder figures, one with pointed red shoes, are clearly elves, not the hobbits Pippin and
Merry in Fangorn Forest.” Sorry for the use of space! And the other elf is one of the roots of the big tree.
It actually looks like it could be Fangorn – kind of dark, but I guess that’s Mirkwood, not Fangorn.
What id at the left hand bottom of the picture? It looks like it came from a Dr. Seuss book
I have this picture on my calendar. It was originally Taur-nu-Fuin, but then Tolkien made it Mirkwood, then
later Fangorn. Hope that helps!
Very multipurpose pic! Ingenious 😀
Wow..I’m telling you man! This guy’s a enius! Completely the way I imagine Fangorn!
I actually don’t think in looks like Fangorn at all, but oh well:D
I have that same calander as Morithil. For the last time: IT’S NOT FANGORN. But still great!!!!

I think it’s an awesome pic. I like Tolkien’s style.
Hmm, this is on the cover of my TT book and it says “Fangorn FOrest”
But I see everyone’s point. It’s still a great pic, no matter what it is. 🙂
coolZ! those roots are awsome. I’m a artist myself and he did a great job. ^^
bbbrrrrrr. cold there and it is so dark!
I don’t know which forest it is but I still think it’s cool. I’d hate to get lost in that forest.
That’s definately Fangorn, great detail. I’m wondering what’s in the bottom left corner…
