A bit different from the movie version, but Tolkien was definetly a good artist.
most of the stuff i can find seemed to be just sketchs. he didnt do much in colour or paint 🙁
i didn’t think hobbit-houses were that big!
In the movie it mostly has just hobbit holes.
He’s a really good artist, but for some reason, I really don’t like this.
i like the picture, but mostly for its upper parts… the houses in the front are so… square..

i’m surprised there are so many buildings, and that they seem to have tiled roofs, i though they’d be thatched
Actually, I;m not sure those are houses. That big one in fron is the mill, and as for those other ones…
… they look like some other important building… not houses
i didnt realise there was so many above ground bulidings, i mean i knew there was a few but this is suprising

i love this picture its really good, different to the film but i still like it
i think that’s just the mill- that big house. you can see their holes in the hills
and that hall might be the mathom house or the hall of Michel Delving or something

The mill’s just like the movie but the wheel went against the current in the movie.
In Bilbo’s times, it was mostly the richer and poorer hobbits that lived in holes.
