A HUGE different from the version in the movie. I actually like the one in the movie better.
me too… lots.
Ahh! The movie one is waaaay better!
this one is not as scary as the one in the movie. no offense to Tolkien’s picture.
It looks like a wedding cake!
mmm… different from the discriptions given in the book IMO.
This looks too round and friendly.
It’s not really a tower is it? But it shouldn’t be scary. Saruman didn’t build it.
its too friendly, and too short, and too light, and too round…no, the one in the movie is much better!
The movie one is a bit more ominous. But I like the background on this one.
i would like this one more if it was black and smooth, but it’s better than the one in the movie
He didn’t seem to follow his own description, oddly enough.
This is so cool! I really like this. I wish that PJ had considered some of Tolkiens drawings for movie ideas.
I still can’t believe I’m criticising (sorry for spelling) what Tolkien had in mind, but I like PJ’s version
a bit more. Sorry, Tolkien!
It’s like…..urrrr…heh….can’t find words
looks like it u took a picture of it with a camera, some places in the photo would look out of focus
Darn it, people! This is the REAL tower…despite any movie.
I know that this is not the final version of Tolkien: I saw another version that looks more like in the movie.
It looks like a light house! No offese Tolkien!
This tower belonged to *Gondor*. It was never supposed to be all Barad-dury.
Tolkien drew many ‘concept’ illustrations for towers and other points of Middle Earth, this is an early piece
Somehow this doesn’t seem like something built by the Numenoreans to me. . . but I guess it is an early piece,
if what Moerkestesky said is right.
Look some bricks! Still gotta love tolkien!
This is NOT the Orthanc Tolkien describes in the final version of the book and how he draws it on a cover for
book 2! So don’t be sad, the Orthanc in the movie is pretty correct to Tolkien’s final design of the tower.
who cares about the movie! this is how the professor drew it so that it how its supposed to be! dont forget
the creator poeple!!!!!!
Are you serious? I thought it was Minas Tirith cause it had 7 storeys…. that’s the pic on the back of
the box of my 50th anniversary edition of LOTR!!!!
I think I’ve seen another pic of orthanc by good ol’ JR and it matches the book description.
i like this one because saruman wasnt evil befoor. and in the movie it looks dark and evil:O right?
i absolutely love it!
that’s one tiered tower.
it`s strange, because tolkien descibed it in book more alike to the movie version.
It feels rather stupid to criticize Tolkien’s drawing, but I thought Orthanc was taller and had smoother walls.
I like the movie one but this one makes more sense for having been built by men
It’s so weird to think that THIS is what Tolkien thought of as he wrote.
