must have misread those tengwar, it’s probalby some sindarin form, i can only read quenya tengwar

The tengwar on the urn say something like “gold…Thrain” and then possibly “a quest” on the second line.
I’ve seen this picture in The Hobbit – its very nice!
I believe this was on the cover of the first copy of The Hobbit I read.

I can read the tengwar but it is kind of a jumble of consonants as far as I can (blurrily) see.
Perhaps the inscription on that jar is in Dwarfish?
Does think that the thing with the possibly Tengwar on it looks like a cup of pop-corn? Or is it just me.
Anyway, great pic.
Smaug looks awfully, well, cartoony. And small. Also, I didn’t think Dwarves would make a habit of using
Tengwar, but I suppose Tolkien knows best.
