King Eomer

2994-63 FA (3084) Éomer Éadig: When he was young he became a Marshal of the Mark (3017) and was given his father’s charge in the east marches. Since Théoden had no heir, he named Éomer his heir and called him King on the Pelennor. Just before Théoden died, Éomer arrived at his side. When one of his knights took the king's banner from the hand of Guthláf, Théoden opened his eyes, and motioned that the flag should be given to Éomer:

"Hail, King of the Mark! … Ride now to victory! Bid Éowyn farewell!"

Eomer was a young King and a great one. He reigned for 65 years. He made the friendship of King Elessar and Imrahil of Dol Amroth and he rode often to Gondor. In the last year of TA he wedded Lothíriel, daughter of Imrahil. His son Elfwine the Fair ruled after him.

During Éomer’s rule the Rohirrim increased and as did their horses. King Elessar renewed the gift of Cirion and Eomer took again the Oath of Eorl. ‘Wherever the King Elessar went with war King Éomer went with him; and beyond the Sea of Rhûn and on the far fields of the South the thunder of the cavalry of the Mark was heard, and the White Horse upon Green flew in many winds until Éomer grew old.’

Oath of Eorl:
Oath sworn by Eorl the Young to Cirion. the Steward of Gondor, in TA 2510. The Oath stated that Eorl and his heirs would aid the Stewards of Gondor at need, in return for the gift of Calenardhon. The token of this call for aid seems to be have been the Red Arrow. Rohan fulfilled the Oath a number of times in the Third Age, especially in the time of King Folewine and Steward Turin II (2885), and during the War of the Ring. After WR, Eomer of Rohan renewed the Oath with King Elessar.
